Dance theatre “Okarukas” continues to successfully re-invent the boundaries between theatre, dance and performance art with their emblematic piece “Not A Love Story”, which premiered for the first time on a traditional stage at Kaunas Drama Theatre on October 2nd 2020 for the International Dance Festival. Aura 30 ”.

Featuring the duo of artists Sakurako and Phil Von, this constant re-creation was previously site-specifically re-adapted and performed in Amsterdam, Paris, Kyoto and Vicenza. “Not A Love Story” is an interdisciplinary art form, inviting on audiovisual and very physical journey of a woman and a man experiencing different realities. It’s a story about a relationship that has unexpectedly emerged here and now, that may have been going on for more than a lifetime. In search of the key to authentic friendship, the two characters meet in an ever-changing reality or vision, changing roles and denying chronology. Involuntarily telling their lives, they are trying to figure out who they are, why they are here, and how to take advantage of perhaps the only chance to stay together. On stage, the distinctive and refined style of Sakurako’s butô meets Phil Von’s unique electro-flamenco technique, both dance techniques polished over decades. Videos by various video artists created specifically for this project from the Paris Metro, the Fushimi Inari Temple in Kyoto, or the Panevėžys Marriage Palace subtly illustrate the ever-changing reincarnations of man and woman seeking for each other in different space-time dimensions.
